tantalizing tuesday...

i am having a kickass day today...

yesterday, i had an earth-shatteringly painful toothache. being the semi hypochondriac that i am, i determined that i had an abscess and an exposed nerve and would most likely require a root canal. my plan of action was to wait it out and not go to the dentist because i hate him. later, after my mild dental panic attack, i remembered that i'd had a nightmare the night before and had ground my teeth quite hard. today, my toothache is gone and i'm feeling much better, partly because my mouth is no longer throbbing with a blinding pain akin to that which is felt by newly orphaned children and partly because i don't have to go to the dentist.

there's an amazing record shop around the corner from work if you're into the following formats:

Motown

50s soul/r&b (the real stuff... not 1980s peabo bryson, although they have some of his crap too)

early and late 60s pop

70s pop and rock

i am completely enamoured of old music and quite literally clicked my heels upon acquiring "i think we're alone now" by tommy james and the shondells. tiffany should totally be punched in the face for not doing this song justice. also got "mrs. robinson" and "walk on the wild side" by simon/garfunkel and lou reed, respectively. and, the one herman's hermits song that i can consistently remember, "mrs. brown you've got a lovely daughter."

and last weekend, during a gloriously relaxing saturday in adams morgan for crafty bastards, i got rose royce's charming ode to blue collars, "car wash" and a surprisingly good live version of the kinks' "lola" on white vinyl.

another good thing? i got some delicious fried plantains from the jamaican place down the way where all the ladies call me "sugar" or "sweetie" or "baby" and it makes me smile.

tonight i will indulge my inner indie queen once again and venture out to le chat noir for an evening of sensitive fashions and guitars. nada surf is back with a vengeance and more popular (snicker, snicker) than ever. i like say hi to your mom and all those teddy bear photos. i've yet to see army of me, playing any songs at least.

and this is just delicious.
