SaturdayCheesy eggs
woke up ludicrously early and made smoked cheddar eggs and tater tots with ben. delicious to the max.
American apparel and urban outfitters
after a power nap and a shower, we decided that we really needed to go buy stuff. first stop, american apparel so ben could purchase yet another hoodie. but this one was special because a) it’s kelly green and b) its immediate future involved felt and hand-sewing. then urban outfitters in gallery place. wasn’t expecting to find anything i liked, especially not in the clearance section, but i was pleasantly surprised and came out with a small haul of fabulously diverse and colorful new additions to my wardrobe:
- a faux vintage thin turquoise shirt with a big 70s-ish screenprint of a hot dog
- a thin heather gray muscle-t (but with flowy cap sleeves) with a partially see-through white screenprint of a hawk – it looks superb with a hot pink bra
- a yellow star printed bra that looks like a bathing suit with cheap plastic closures
- a tacky wide, low-slinging belt of pink velvet/faux fur with giant circular rhinestones and sequins that is a lot more awesome than it sounds
- an oversized wooden bead necklace covered in a lovely blue and green printed fabric that has sparked many conversations with “are you playing with my balls?”
Sunday
French toast
woke up early again and this time i was feeling fancy. put the excellent mix cd that coworker kelly made me for valentine’s day on in the kitchen. the night before I bought loaf of honey oat bread… an actual loaf that is uncut and loaf-like. sliced that bread, scrambled up some eggs, added vanilla and made some pretty damn delicious french toast. ben made tea and set the table. pause to danse a little to kelly’s cd. then we had the loveliest sunday morning breakfast sitting at our astonishingly uncluttery kitchen table with carolyn’s lovely tulips in a clear glass vase.
Crafting twee hoodie
spent much of the day alone in my bedroom, crafting. belle & sebastian will be here in a matter of days, so I figured it was about time for to get the ball rolling on my twee projects. i had all my materials laid out on my bed when i realized that i needed a ruler in order to fashion the kite for ben’s sweatshirt. but my ruler was all the way across the room, so i used a tag from all those clothes i bought yesterday as a straightedge to make a pattern out of heavy sketch paper that i then used to cut the kite panels out of felt. it worked surprisingly well and i didn’t even have to get up. kelly’s cd was playing loudly and on a loop and i felt quite content making little frankenstein stitches as i first fashioned the kite out of panels of red and blue felt and then attached it to ben’s brand new aa hoodie. then i cut out a little gray cloud and puffy painted the charming phrase “twee as fuck” within it. not quite done yet, still have to make a tail for the kite, but here it is, modeled on ben, in all its unfinished glory!
Taint with tom
hadn’t seen tom in ages so i was pleased as punch when he suggested that we rock taint again. there are few things i enjoy more than sweaty, dancing, attractive gay men. i whipped out the flat iron and brought my bangs out of hiding, donned my fancy/tacky new pink belt and headed over to tom’s where he and his uber fancy roomie were on the edge of their seats for grey’s anatomy. after a little bit of gossiping and ego-stroking, tom and i ventured out into the icy/burning wind to danse our troubles away at dc9. tons of people, mostly fancy. there was actually a coat check (for $2, those jerks) and as i searched my pockets i came to the unfortunate realization that i had mistaken my oversized belt as a pocket and lost $13 somewhere on the floor near the front door of dc9. bitches. so i was a one-drink sally that evening, but it didn’t have any negative effects on my dansability. the dj played a fair amount of excellent songs until he started adding stupid canned dance beats to already danceable songs like bloc party and death from above. everyone went bonkers when bjork’s big time sensuality came blasting out of the PA. i made some dance friends who occasionally blew me kisses from across the densely crowded room. i’ve come to the realization that gay men love me. And i love them right back.
Napping the day away
after a disappointingly unattractive (yet still delicious) omelette, i napped the day away… literally. i returned to bed at around 1pm and when I awoke, it was 5pm. bitches. showered, danced a little and then got to work on yet another felt-related craft project, this time for kelly in partial repayment of all the joy that her valentine’s mix has brought me. here’s a thousand words:
